From e-tailor to the customer’s home

The UK delivery market is highly competitive and dynamically growing with a wide range of domestic and cross-border delivery services. Study shows that 36% of online shoppers purchased goods in other countries and 27% of online shoppers bought twice of more times a month from a foreign online store – as can be read in the WIK Consult study on the development of cross-border e-commerce through parcel delivery. 

In the WIK consumer survey - done for the European Commission, conducted in 30 countries and 24 languages and filled out by in total 17.037 consumers sourced from representative national online panels during the summer months of 2018. - it became clear that most of the cross-border purchases have been done from Chinese e-retailers, followed by purchases from the United States and Germany.

The United Kingdom scores second best after the Netherlands, on the ranking list with very good results on delivery quality, competitive landscape, USP performance and state of e-commerce. Four categories on which all European countries have been ranked.

Delivery at home most common

93% of all purchases have been delivered at people’s home! Mostly clothes and shoes, but also books and consumer electronics are popular cross-border online purchases. Only 10% of the purchases were delivered at a retailer’s stores and 8% at a parcel shop or post office.
