Spring UK and the Brexit vote: keeping your business moving forward

Brexit UK

After a tumultuous couple of months, the UK Government is having to rethink its options on Brexit after seeing the draft agreement struck with the European Union comprehensively voted down by the House of Commons.

It means that we are still without clarity on how – and, possibly, if – Britain will withdraw from the EU.

For now, at least, the only certainty appears to be the date by which that is scheduled to take place: Friday, March the 29th.

Even that formal departure could be delayed, though, if the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, requests an extension to Article 50, the mechanism by which Britain will no longer be a member of the EU.

However, businesses – especially those UK-based companies looking to expand the amount of goods which they sell to Europe - are right to wonder what the situation means to them.

We at Spring UK are doing our best to provide the answers.

As an organisation which provides domestic, European and global delivery solutions, we have been tracking the potential impact of Brexit on you – our customers – since before the referendum of June 2016.

That intelligence is critical to our role as brokers, offering advice and delivery solutions which are best suited to the individual needs of each of our clients.

The outcome of the Commons’ vote neither changes that determination to give you the support that you need nor our ability to deliver services that your business requires.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that whatever shape Brexit eventually takes, Spring UK is in something of a unique position.

We are wholly owned by PostNL, the premier provider of postal and parcel services in the Netherlands.

Being part of a postal operator enables shippers using Spring UK to benefit from ‘postal clearance’, which can be less complicated than commercial clearance alternatives. It’s an advantage which could give shippers a critical edge in remaining competitive should EU withdrawal result in the imposition of tariffs for consignments moving in or out of the UK, for instance.
