What is the current status of Brexit?
The United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the European Union (EU) on March 29th, 2019. This follows the November 2018 Withdrawal Agreement between the British government and the 27 EU countries. This deal still has to be approved by several political institutions both within the EU and UK.
Transition period? Or no deal?
If the deal is approved, this signals the start of a transition period running from March 2019 until December 2020. During the transition period, all current rules and regulations to the UK and EU remain in place.
If the UK leaves the EU on March 29th without a ratified agreement, trade between the UK and other countries will be regulated by World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
