Frequently asked questions about e-commerce shipping to the US
Is Spring GDS the right partner for my business?
Our USA shipping solution is ideal for e-commerce businesses sending at least 100 parcels per month, with weights up to 20 kg and a value up to $800 (€680).
We’re well-suited to retailers looking for a scalable, cross-border shipping partner.
What has changed with shipping to the US after August 29th, 2025?
On 29th August 2025, a new executive order from the White House removed the $800 de-minimis threshold for imports into the United States. This meant that duties and taxes became mandatory on all items, regardless of their value.
As a result of the regulatory change, Spring GDS discontinued its Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) postal service for e-commerce shipments to the USA and introduced a Postal Delivered Duty Paid (PDDP) solution. This ensures shipments remain compliant and avoids flat-rate clearance fees, providing a smoother and more predictable delivery experience.
What delivery services are available for shipping to the US?
We offer a Postal DDP service for shipping to the United States. DDP stands for Delivered Duty Paid, meaning all duties are paid upfront.
Postal DDP is a delivery solution that leverages our trusted postal partners, PostNL and USPS, for customs clearance and final mile delivery.
What areas does the Postal DDP (PDDP) service to the US cover?
Our PDDP service covers all of the United States - including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and other US extraterritorial islands. The extraterritorial islands, like Virgin Islands, need to be pre-advised with their two letter ISO code e.g. VI, to make sure that no duties are levied.
Are there restrictions on what I can ship to the US?
Yes. Dangerous goods, food items, and products containing batteries are not permitted through our service. If you’re unsure whether your products are eligible, our team is happy to advise. Also you can visit the following link: https://www.usps.com/ship/shipping-restrictions.htm

How are the tariffs calculated with Postal DDP (PDDP) solution?
With the Postal DDP (PDDP) solution tariffs are calculated based on item value and country-based IEEPA tariff only, depending on country of origin.
The IEEPA tariff refers to import duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), a U.S. law that allows the President to regulate economic transactions during a declared national emergency.
What product data is required to use these solutions?
To use the Postal DDP solution, it is necessary to provide accurate item description, HS code (10 digits), country of origin, and item value.
