We've published our first Impact Report
From individual sustainability initiatives to strategic, measurable action.
As Spring GDS grows, so does our environmental and social responsibility. Sustainability is no longer an add‑on to our strategy; it is a core part of how we operate across our international networks.
Spring GDS's first impact report explains how we’re moving from individual sustainability actions to a structured decarbonisation roadmap, aligned with PostNL’s commitment to become Net Zero by 2040.
The low‑hanging fruit of emissions reduction is behind us. We’ve shifted from offsetting to directly reducing emissions within our own value chain, and we’re now tackling difficult carbon-intensive areas such as long-haul road transport and air freight.
But we can’t do this alone. Decarbonisation requires collaboration across the entire value chain. The Impact Report outlines what the pathway to decarbonisation looks like for the cross‑border logistics sector as a whole. Our goal is to enable this collaboration by increasing transparency and building trust with customers, partners, and colleagues.
Scaling responsibly across markets
In 2025, we expanded our operational network, strengthened our fulfilment footprint and welcomed more than 100 new colleagues.
Highlights from last year at Spring GDS include:
- 4.1 million litres of HVO100 inected through our Out the Tank initiative
- 400+ customer-specific CO₂ reports generated through our new Emission Tool
- 8,000 reusable pallet boxes in circulation
- EcoVadis Bronze Medal, placing us in the top 20% of rated companies
These achievements reflect a maturing, data‑driven sustainability strategy aligned with the PostNL Group target of Net Zero emissions by 2040.
The 3 different pathways to reducing our transport emissions
In 2025, outsourced road and air transport represented the biggest source of emissions. This includes our middle-mile truck and air transport, as well as last-mile deliveries. With 75% of our emissions falling under scope 3, it is important our strategy is focused on reducing emissions across the entire international value chain.
Our transition pathway is built around three industry-wide shifts:
- Renewable fuels will act as bridging solutions during this decade.
- Electrification will progressively reshape road transport.
- Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) will scale as regulation and demand mature.
Middle-mile air: scaling Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
Air transport is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise within logistics. That’s why we launched our Book and Claim* solution for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), our primary tool for short-term decarbonisation. This enables customers to directly contribute to cleaner aviation, even when physical SAF isn’t available on their route.
SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80%, and demand is growing fast.
With Book & Claim, our customers receive verified, standards-aligned documentation of the resulting emissions reductions, enabling them to lower their air freight emissions and demonstrate measurable climate impact.

Middle-mile road: biofuels today, electrification tomorrow
In the short-term, Spring GDS is reducing transport emissions by maximising the physical use of certified HVO100 biofuel across our European road network wherever operationally possible.
In 2025, our ‘Out the Tank’ solution enabled us to inject 4.1 million litres of certified HVO100 across the European diesel network, equivalent to ~11.9 kt CO₂e reduced.
The collaborative work we conduct across our network represents an environmental milestone for our use of sustainable biofuels. With the support from our partners, the use of HVO100 signifies a positive step forward for sustainability, not just for Spring GDS but across the wider value chain.
At the same time, we’re preparing for the long-term shift to electric trucking through route selection, partner pilots, and infrastructure readiness.
Last-mile delivery: Improving data, raising standards
In the Benelux, PostNL’s electrified last-mile network already delivers 33% of parcels emission-free. Outside the region, we’re working with partners to improve data quality and integrate sustainability criteria into contract management.
The people behind the parcels
Reflecting our global footprint, Spring GDS brings together colleagues from a wide range of cultural backgrounds across Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific.
This multicultural environment strengthens our ability to understand diverse customer needs and supports our decentralised way of working, where local teams apply their market knowledge to shape daily people practices.
Within our workforce, 46% of colleagues are women, reflecting a relatively balanced gender ratio. At leadership level, 27% of senior management positions are held by women, highlighting the importance of continued focus on gender representation in senior roles.
In 2025:
- We welcomed over 100 new employees globally
- We achieved an engagement rate of 83%
- Achieved a retention rate of 86.16%
- Delivered 14.93 training hours per employee
- Reached 97.88% safety training coverage
Collaborations with local social impact projects
From food security initiatives in Canada and Italy to disaster relief efforts in Spain, our teams are actively supporting the communities where they live and work.
In Mississauga, Canada, colleagues have supported the Mississauga Food Bank for the past three years by organizing collections of non‑perishable food items and hygiene products for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and donating unwrapped toys during the Christmas season to support local families in need.
In Como, Italy, colleagues partnered with Banco di Solidarietà to organize food collections and Christmas donations. In Spain, teams supported flood relief efforts and raised funds for local food banks.
Responsible business conduct and integrated ESG leadership
Spring GDS operates in a complex international logistics environment where responsible conduct, transparency and compliance are essential to maintaining trust with our customers, partners and regulators.
As part of the PostNL Group, Spring GDS embeds ethical standards, governance structures and management systems into our daily operations. This ensures consistent and accountable business practices across our global network.
At Spring GDS, ESG is embedded in our strategy and decision-making. Sustainability is not managed as a standalone function, but integrated into how the business is governed and developed.
The Spring GDS Management Team holds overall accountability for executing the ESG strategy and performance. Country heads and functional heads are responsible for embedding ESG within their areas, including procurement, operations, customer solutions, and supplier management. This ensures that sustainability priorities are reflected in both day-to-day decisions and long-term development.
Our impact report shows how ESG is integrated into the foundations of Spring GDS, guiding us from single strategies to measurable action.
