What changes with shipping to the US after 24 July, 2026?
New US postal import procedures introduced additional customs requirements, mandatory brokerage and the application of standard customs duties to postal imports. At the same time, the maximum shipment value increased to USD 2,500.
Do I need to arrange a customs broker if I'm shipping to the US with Spring GDS?
No. Licensed customs brokerage is mandatory under the new US postal entry procedures, but this is managed by PostNL and Spring GDS. No action is required on your side.
What has changed with shipping to the US after August 29th, 2025?
On 29th August 2025, the United States removed the de minimis exemption for imports, ending the previously duty-free threshold of USD 800. As a result, all shipments entering the US become subject to customs processing and applicable duties, taxes and trade measures based on the product classification, country of origin, and current US import regulations.
To support these changes, US customs and postal import procedures have continued to evolve. From 24 July 2026, postal imports are processed under enhanced customs requirements, including formal customs clearance and licensed customs brokerage.
This means that postal shipments are subject to customs procedures similar to those used for commercial imports, helping to create a more consistent framework for goods entering the United States.
As a result of the regulatory change, Spring GDS discontinued its Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) postal service for e-commerce shipments to the USA and introduced both postal and commercial DDP solutions. The commercial solution was offered for shipments with a value between $800 and $2500. On the 24th of July, Postal DDP will be available for shipments up to $2500. The commercial DDP solution is no longer needed, and discontinued.
