Delayed delivery due to COVID-19

Italy (IT)

Date:17 January 2022
Expected delay:Delay: maximum 4 weeks from now
Country:Italy
Reason for service alert:

New 17 January: Postal parcels and packets to Italy are experiencing delays due to an earlier IT issue at Poste Italiane for customs clearing during week 48, 49 and 50. Initially this related to non-EU shipments only, but unfortunately also some EU shipments from that period are affected. The delayed shipments will be processed in the coming weeks. Parcels shipped via non-postal / commercial routes are not affected.

Update 21 December: Delays in transit times due to customs IT difficulties at Poste Italiane for shipments coming from a non-EU origin to Italy.

New 15 December: Delays in transit times in Italy due to a planned national strike on Thursday the 16th of December.

Update 23 November: Due to the effects of severe weather conditions in Sicily, Poste Italiane experienced a delay between the 18th and 23rd of November. Problems are now solved.

Update 18 November: Due to IT issues with customs, Poste Italiane is experiencing a delay for non EU items.

Update 2 November: Bad weather conditions in the eastern part of Sicily have led to extensive floods. A state of emergency has been declared. As a result delivery operations throughout the island (postcodes 9****) are disrupted. Poste Italiane has declared a situation of force majeure. Updates will follow.

Update 16 July: Uncleared packets and parcels originating from non-EU countries can experience delays of up to 14 days due to data processing issues between customs and the local carrier.

Update 15 June: The workers union 'Cobas' has called for a nation-wide logistical strike to take place Friday the 18th of June in Italy. Additional delays of 1-2 days can be expected for all products to this destination on top of earlier communicated delays related to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Update 4 May: Poste Italiane has informed us that they temporarily cannot guarantee collections and deliveries for the province of Brescia, due to operational delays caused by unforeseeable and extraordinary issues. This communication is published on the official Poste Italiane website, where further relevant updates will be stated.

Update 25 March: The workers union 'Cobas' has called for a nation-wide logistical strike to take place Friday the 26th of March in Italy. Additional delays of 1-2 days can be expected for all products to this destination on top of earlier communicated delays related to the Covid-19 restrictions and customs capacity.

Update 16 March: Poste Italiane is experiencing capacity issues at their customs warehouse due to very high, unexpected parcel volumes received from countries outside the EU. There are difficulties with storing and customs clearing of incoming parcel mail items from non-EU origins, due to this the transit times will be longer. Poste Italiane is doing the best they can to clear the backlog and to get the process under control again. Please take note that the delays are only affecting items coming from non-EU origins.

Update 4 March: The workers union 'Cobas' has called for a nation-wide logistical strike to take place Monday the 8th of March in Italy. Additional delays of 1-2 days can be expected for all products to this destination on top of earlier communicated delays related to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Update 4 March: We currently experience large delays for all our volumes towards Italy. This is caused by several issues. Due to intensive customs checks all products are delayed which can measure up to 28 days. Poste Italiane is working together with customs to improve the transit times.

Update 27 January: The workers union 'Cobas' has called for a nation-wide logistical strike to take place Friday the 29th of January in Italy. Additional delays of 1-2 days can be expected for all products to this destination on top of earlier communicated delays related to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Update 14 January: Poste Italiane is unable to promise their usual service of delivery to the following postal code areas, in order to minimise the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19): Messina - 98100, San Fratello - 98075, Castel di Judica - 95040, Ramacca - 95040, Gela - 93012, Milena - 93010, Villarosa - 94010, Ravanusa - 92029, Capizzi - 98031, Santa Flavia – 90017
